Sheffield welcome Workington to SHU sports park this saturday afternoon with both sides hoping they can significantly improve their performances and league position going into the second half of the season. Turning full time hasn’t seen the kick on that coach Mark Aston would have wanted with the Eagles currently sitting two points ahead of the relegation places in seventh. Workington are currently sitting bottom of the division after only one victory so far against Oldham at home. Phil Vievers responded to his side’s current poor run of form by calling for the two West Cumbrian sides to merge after defeat against Bradford. Was it a genuine call or a tactic to stop his side being talked about?

Both sides had free weekends last weekend due to early cup exits. Sheffield’s last fixture come on the 29th April as they narrowly defeated Dewsbury thanks to Menzie Yere crossing in the final seconds to grab victory 32-28 despite being 6-22 down at half time.

Workington almost pulled off a comeback victory as they just lost 36-32 at the Shay against Richard Marhsall’s Halifax. Fax lead 30-10 at half time but it could have been defeat for Fax had Carl Forber had more than a 50% success rate with the boot. Second half tries from Jarrad Stack (2), Perry Whiteley and Graeme Mattinson show that the spirit is still there and they don’t believe they are relegated just yet despite being six points adrift on the competition.
