SUPER 8s MATCH REPORT | Catalans Dragons 22-26 St Helens
A late winner put St Helens on the verge of the League Leaders’ Shield. Here’s our verdict…
MATCH DETAILS
Catalans’ homecoming to the Stade Gilbert Brutus, following their recent Challenge Cup success, ended in a late defeat at the hands of St Helens.
The game started off slowly but it was the French outfit who were to claim the game’s first try through David Mead.
The Dragons kept on the front foot and soon scored again, with Remi Casty capitalising on a loose ball to put Steve McNamara’s side 10-0 up after the kick.
Then it was the turn of Saints to have their say, as centre Percival scored in the 17th minute, before Frenchman Theo Fages added a second and Danny Richardson’s penalty edged them in front at the break.
Catalans started to pressurise St Helens again with Iain Thornley scoring, followed by a Kenny Edwards try to give them a 22-14 lead.
However, one thing every Super League fans should know is that you can never write off the Saints, as Justin Holbrook’s side came back with two tries to win the game.
Jonny Lomax was the first scorer before Morgan Knowles was the match winner in the final minute, to put them one points away from the Shield.
