The Super 8s kicked off this week as the top eight battle it out for a spot at the Theatre of Dreams, Old Trafford in two months’ time. Castleford have led the way for most of the season, but can they hold on at the most important stage of the season, or will one of the chasers catch up?

CASTLEFORD TIGERS 12-26 ST HELENS
Castleford Tigers 12 match unbeaten run came to an abrupt end as St. Helens announced their title bid with a superb 12-26 victory at the Jungle. This is Saints’ fourth consecutive win which certainly puts Justin Holbrook’s side within the conversation regarding a place in the semi-finals.

HUDDERSFIELD GIANTS 36-6 WAKEFIELD TRINITY
Huddersfield cemented an early warning in their Super 8s campaign with a convincing win over Wakefield Trinity in a six-try dousing.
Danny Brough was the ring leader as he scored an early try to put the Giants ahead, before converting efforts from McIntosh and Hinchcliffe. The stand-off also added a penalty goal to the Giants tally, before a try from Williams pegged one back for the visitors at the half-time hooter.
After the break, Jermaine McGillvary, Leroy Cudjoe and Daniel Smith also added to the rout, making for a simple victory for the Giants.
The win means a lot to Huddersfield who started the Super 8s towards the bottom of the top eight, it puts them in good form ahead of a trip to Wigan on Friday night
HULL FC 32-18 SALFORD RED DEVILS
Hull staged a solid second half comeback to keep up their endeavours to make the top four. The two sides were both in Challenge Cup action last weekend, though with varying results from the semi-finals.
It was Salford who opened the scoring through Manu Vatuvei, before Albert Kelly drew things level with his 19th of the season. Hull then extended their lead, this time Tuimavave helping himself to the try. Things were back to all square by half-time though, as Niall Evalds ran in a great individual try for the Red Devils, before Robert Lui added to Salford’s tally.
Seven minutes into the second period, Fetuli Talanoa rose highest to claim a ball and ground it, before Jake Connor got in on the act and Tuimavave got his second of the night. Manu Vatuvei got his second too, but it was only to be a consolation for the Salford Red Devils.
LEEDS RHINOS 32-16 WIGAN WARRIORS
Prior to the game Wigan had only won two of their last seven visits to Headingley, and the shares were spoiled between the two with one win each in their fixtures so far this season.
It was a very end to end first half, Leeds taking themselves out to a 10-0 lead through efforts from Stevie Ward and Ashton Golding. Wigan soon hit back though, winger Tom Davies getting himself a brace, including a 90-meter effort down the right flank.
It was a much more comfortable second half for the hosts, getting an early try as a Ryan Hall break fed Golding for his second of the game. Quick tries from Parcell, and another two from Ward to complete his hat trick all but sealed a win for Leeds. Sam Tomkins did get over for the only Warriors try in the second stanza, but it was too late for Wigan who slip a little further in the top eight, with hopes of an Old Trafford trip slowly fading.
