Who gets the punt from Bondi – Keary or Pearce?

“Yeah, Jesus. How do they fit everyone?”

That’s the tongue-in-cheek comment Australian winger Josh Mansour made after hearing the news that Cooper Cronk had signed with the Roosters.

Most of the rugby league public were thinking the same.

While Mitchell Pearce has been the focus of media attention about who would leave Bondi, could it be his halves pairing of Luke Keary who will go?

Pearce has played all of his career at the Roosters and if he survives the cut by the Roosters will more than likely become a one-club player.  His chances of enhancing his reputation on the representative stage will benefit from playing aside Cronk.

Unfortunately his alcoholic behaviour on Australia Day recently in 2016 is in the back of the mind of Roosters management.  To Pearce’s credit he’s kept out of trouble since that incident.

To think that Keary only a few years ago was in a tug-of-war with New South Wales and Queensland for Origin eligibility.  However it seems as though Keary, as good a player as he is, isn’t likely to be the next in line to play in the Blues side.

As with Pearce, Keary will take his game to a new level under Cronk and finally break through for Origin.  At the age of 25 he has time on his side but is only signed on by the Roosters until the end of 2018.

It will be a delicate talk between Keary’s management and Roosters hierarchy as they try and work out a meaningful contract extension beyond the end of next year.

It comes down to Trent Robinson and which player he thinks can drive the Roosters to a premiership.

Whatever the play, it looks like either of these two players will replace Blake Green at Brookvale as he sets sail for Auckland.
